The Pacific Maritime Association (PMA) issued an update on the continued slowdowns and work actions at major West Coast ports including Seattle and Tacoma, Washington; Oakland, Los Angeles and Long Beach, California. The union actions are tied to ongoing negotiations for a new coast-wide labor contract. The negotiations, which started in May for a contract that expired July 1, have been ongoing for the past six months.

The Philippines are preparing for Typhoon Rammasun, also known as Typhoon Glenda to make landfall on July 16. The UniGroup Relocation office in Manila has reported port closures due to the storm’s anticipated landfall. The area has already experienced high winds and are bracing for floods and landslides. The Manila International Container Terminal (MICT) has suspended operations and anticipates reopening late Wednesday, July 16.

The Wall Street Journal based its article “Twice as Many Expatriates Leaving China than Arriving, Moving Company Says” on the information provided in UniGroup Relocation’s 2014 International Movers Study. The study found that twice as many people moved out of China than into the country in 2014 and that the U.S., Germany, Singapore and France were the top four destination countries for those moving out of China. Fewer Americans are moving to China in 2014, according to the International Movers Study released today by UniGroup Relocation, which tracks customers’ global migration patterns during the course of the past year. Moves from the U.S. to China decreased since 2013, causing the country to drop three spots on the list of top destination countries from the U.S.
